Warranty Coverage
25-year limited installation warranty
At Metro Vancouver Siding, we stand behind the quality of our workmanship. That's why we provide a 25-year limited warranty on installation for every siding project we complete — giving you peace of mind that your siding was installed to professional standards and will remain secure when properly maintained.
Metro Vancouver Siding — installation warranty
Covers the installation workmanship we perform. If a defect arises within 25 years of completion — siding becoming loose, detaching, or falling off — we'll repair or replace the affected area at no additional cost.
James Hardie® — 30-year non-prorated warranty
Covers manufacturing defects in material and workmanship on your James Hardie siding products.
ColorPlus® Technology & HardieTrim® — 15-year warranty
ColorPlus finishes and HardieTrim boards are backed by a separate 15-year limited warranty.
What the James Hardie manufacturer warranty covers
-
Manufacturing defects
Problems with the product itself, due to how it was made.
-
Hail, pests & weather damage
Specifically covers damage from hail, woodpeckers, termites, or other wood-boring insects.
-
Warping & cracking
Protects against cracking, splitting, edge checking, or warping caused by water, heat, or freezing temperatures.
What's not covered
-
Improper installation
Coverage is void if the product isn't installed according to James Hardie's instructions.
-
Improper maintenance
Failure to perform necessary maintenance can void the warranty.
-
Third-party products
Efflorescence or failure of third-party paints or coatings is not covered.
-
Structural issues
Damage resulting from foundation shifts or incorrect structural design is excluded.
Why installation quality matters
How improper installation can void your warranty
Even genuine, defect-free James Hardie® materials can fail prematurely if they're not installed correctly — and the manufacturer's warranty won't cover damage caused by installation error rather than the product itself.
Water damage & moisture penetration
If siding panels aren't properly overlapped, flashed, or caulked, water can seep behind the siding. Improper sealing around windows, doors, or joints also lets moisture in.
Water behind the siding can lead to rot, mold, and structural damage — issues the manufacturer won't cover, since the siding itself isn't defective; it was simply installed incorrectly.
Incorrect cutting & fitting
Cutting panels too short, at the wrong angle, or forcing them to fit.
Leads to gaps, misalignment, or exposed edges, which can let water or pests in and cause both aesthetic and structural issues.
Fastening issues
Using the wrong type of nails, overdriving or underdriving them, or placing them in the wrong location.
Can cause cracking, warping, or panels loosening over time — failure caused by installation mistakes rather than a material defect, which the warranty won't cover.
Additional notes
- Non-transferable — this warranty applies only to the original property owner at the time of installation.
- Claims process — claims must be submitted in writing with proof of purchase and photographs of the issue.
- Right to inspect — Metro Vancouver Siding reserves the right to inspect the affected area before determining coverage.
